2014 ROLLING RIDGE BASEBALL SCHEDULE (UPDATED 05-08-2014)
Students proposed the formation of a baseball team during the 2008-09 school year. The team's focus has always been to develop and work on basic baseball skills, rules, and strategies. During the first season, the team was able to scrimmage several surrounding schools. Currently, the baseball team provides 8-10 games against surrounding schools; the highlight has been a series of games against Putnam Science Academy. The Whales gained the first baseball school victory in 2011 against PSA, sparking a new rivalry and the introduction of the "Traveling Trophy". The Whales have held the trophy twice with goals to hold it during the off-season.
The baseball team enjoys playing home games at Pomfret Recreation Park, our own "Field of Dreams". Practice has been enhanced with an on campus batting cage with a pitching machine. At the end of the season, all members of the team enjoy a hard earned banquet celebrating their progress, achievements, and accomplishments in our continuing goals to compete and win.
The baseball team has been strongly supported by students, parents, and staff.
Golf
Students interested in the golf program can obtain a membership at the Brooklyn Country Club. The students are given various opportunities to practice their skills on the putting green and driving range. The students can then apply these skills on the course. Basic rules and golf etiquette are covered, providing students guidance and structure during this social time with peers, staff, and other community golfers.
Thanksgiving Extravaganza
Established in 2011, the Thanksgiving Extravaganza is typically held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. In this legendary TLC event, students are able to select an activity they feel most comfortable participating in: Flag Football, Soccer, Turkey Trot, and Spectator as a cross-curriculum blend of sports, music, and art.
Weightlifting
After several weightlifting groups, staff took notice of student "strengths" and looked for various opportunities for students to enter competition. Staff provided a training plan, instructions on rules and procedures, as well as motivation for the students. Students typically compete in one or a combination of power lifts, including Squat, Bench Press, and Dead lift. The small student groups have been very successful with the competition format and some are state record holders in their respective age and weight class.
